How bad does your credit have to be to get denied for a mortgage?

I've had some credit issues in the past an I'm nervous about applying.. What kind of credit score is too low to even bother?

If you're below 600, it definitely gets tougher with the banks, but that oesn't mean you're out of options. I've helped clients with scores in the 500s get approved, depending on the rest of their application (like income or down payment). It's not black and while and looking at your whole financial story before assuming anything is the best option, as there's almost always a way into homeownership.
